Survivor Items Guide

Night Guards win Animatronic Nights with gadgets, not character levels. Every survivor enters the same objective loop—repair, evade, escape—while items define whether you stall Springtrap on a door, heal after a Withered Foxy rush, or expose Ennard before Skin Stealer ruins a squad. This guide lists every major item category, how they interact with popular killers, and how Update 40 Sun gear changes loadouts on Daycare Ruins.

For pure power rankings, see the Item Tier List. This page focuses on mechanics, timing, and purchase order.

Flashlights

Flashlights are your primary stun tool. Aim during a killer’s commit animation—Springtrap charge windup, Foxy lunge, Puppet scare—to force a brief stun and create distance. Base shop flashlights offer shorter beams and tighter cooldowns suited to learning. Sun-set flashlights from Update 40 extend visibility on Daycare Ruins’ outdoor sections and classroom wings, making them the first upgrade new accounts should chase after redeeming UPD40 on Codes.

Advanced play saves flashlights for second chases. Burning your only stun during a feint leaves you vulnerable when the real animatronic commits. Pair with a tracker so you know whether the approaching model is Ennard disguised.

Medkits

Medkits restore health after downs or chip damage from wire attachments and scare effects. Self-heal is viable when the killer is chasing a teammate; selfish medkit hoarding loses rounds. Medkits counter burst killers like Withered Foxy more than sustained chippers like Toy Chica.

Healing under cover matters on Daycare Ruins—open yards offer fewer safe corners, so coordinate heals inside classroom blocks before crossing bridges.

Lockpicks

Lockpicks interact with doors and certain map interactables to break camping patterns. When Springtrap sets traps on a choke, lockpicks let the squad reroute without eating a stun. They lose value only on maps with minimal doors; Daycare Ruins still has enough interior locks to keep lockpicks in most loadouts.

Call out lockpick usage in team chat—nothing wastes the item faster than a teammate slamming the same door you just picked.

Speed boosts

Speed boosts grant a burst of movement to cross gaps, reach exits, or reset after a failed flashlight stun. They do not help teammates directly unless you body-block or draw the killer away. Best used on known paths: Daycare Ruins’ central bridge, legacy pizzeria hall lengths, and post-generator sprint lines.

Do not speed boost blindly into fog—you may run into a Springtrap trap placed during the objective phase.

Traps (survivor-placed)

Survivor traps differ from killer traps—they stall whoever steps on them, including animatronics. Pre-place them at choke points during generator work, not mid-chase when placement time gets you caught. Strong against aggressive Foxy mains and Ennard players who tunnel vision one target.

Traps synergize with trackers: confirm the killer path, then lay the trap on the predicted cut-off.

Trackers

Trackers reveal animatronic positions or pulse nearby threats depending on the exact item variant. They are the highest-skill-ceiling team item—information wins asymmetrical games when even one player calls locations. Trackers hard-counter Ennard disguises when the UI shows two blips in one room.

Upgrade to trackers before buying cosmetic duplicate flashlights. See tier placement on Item Tier List.

Sun item set (Update 40)

Update 40 introduced the Sun-themed item line alongside Daycare Ruins. Sun flashlights lead the set for visibility; other Sun tools may include enhanced medkit variants or speed utilities depending on shop rotation. Treat Sun pieces as premium replacements for base tier gear, not sidegrades.

If Sun items appear in event bundles, compare token grind vs. direct Coin purchase before you Trade for duplicates.

Event and limited items

Holiday events add themed gadgets—Valentine heart stuns, 4th of July sparkler flashlights, Nightmare horror trinkets, Salvage scrap bonuses. Numbers often match standard gear with new visuals; check Events for whether an event item is cosmetic-only before paying inflated trade tax.

VHS-styled survivor gear launched with the trading upgrade in Update 38. Cosmetic VHS items may not change tiers but carry collector value.

Balanced public squad: Tracker, medkit, flashlight, lockpick.

Solo queue survival: Medkit, flashlight, speed boost, trap.

Daycare Ruins specialist: Sun flashlight, tracker, lockpick, medkit.

Anti-Ennard: Tracker, flashlight, medkit, trap.

Economy tips

Earn Coins from rounds, premium tags, group rewards, and codes. Buy one tool from each role category before chasing event reskins. Duplicate items without stack bonuses are wasted slots.

When a killer main switches to survivor, read Killer Tier List to know which items counter your usual animatronic.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How many items can a Night Guard equip?

Loadout slots are limited—typically four active tools depending on the current UI. Fill slots with complementary roles: information, stun, heal, and mobility or lockpick utility.

What items counter Springtrap best?

Trackers reveal patrol routes, lockpicks break door camps, and flashlights stun during charge windups. Avoid stepping on unseen bear traps by sweeping with trackers first.

Are Sun items worth buying in Update 40?

Yes for survivors who play Daycare Ruins often. Sun flashlights especially outperform base lights on wide map sections added in the update.

Can I trade survivor items?

Tradeable items depend on PlayBox! rules after the VHS trading upgrade. Cosmetics and duplicates often move on player markets—see the Trading guide for safe exchanges.

Do medkits work during chases?

Most medkits require a brief channel away from direct hits. Break line of sight before healing or you will eat another Foxy rush during the animation.

Where do flashlights rank in the current meta?

Standard flashlights sit at A tier; Sun flashlights start at S tier on Daycare Ruins. Full rankings live on the Item Tier List page.
